Dancer, creator, performer rooted in folklore, working in the contemporary field.
Viktoria Kohalmi is a dancer, performer, choreographer and dance pedagogue. She completed her studies as a Hungarian folk dancer, and then obtained her master degree as a modern dance teacher at the Hungarian Dance Academy. After that she immersed into the contemporary dance scene first in Hungary, then in Spain, and lately she’s been based in Berlin.
Her work is built on groundedness, uses weight and gravity as one of the main motors to gain fluidity, lightness and dynamics. During the years, her curiosity and interest in other cultures’ traditions allowed her to be introduced to other nations’ folk dances, Butoh, martial arts and yoga as well. As a result, her work is influenced not only by Hungarian folk dance, but many distinct traditions, shaping a unique language in the fusion of different movement heritages.
She has worked with Yeri Anarika, Irina Demina, Kónic Thtr, Anna-Lu Masch, Rafaela Sahyoun, Dasha Lavrennikov and Benjamin Nivison amongst others. She has shared her workshops and performed in Germany, Spain, Iceland, Morocco, Italy, Slovakia, Hungary and at universities in Mexico.
